It is the right time to be a Wisconsin sports fan.

The Green Bay Packers are Super Bowl Champions and just beat one of their biggest contenders for this year’s NFC crown on opening night, dropping 42 in the process.

The Wisconsin Badger football team was in the Rose Bowl a year ago and with the edition of Russell Wilson, is suddenly in the conversation for the National Championship.

The Milwaukee Brewers are in first place in the NL Central and are a virtual lock to take the crown.

The Wisconsin basketball team has been a Big Ten title threat for a decade and as long as Bo Ryan is running the show, there is no reason for that trend to end.

If it weren’t for the Milwaukee Bucks shitting the bed, even though only about 27 fans remain, Wisconsin would literally want for nothing in the sporting world.

Beyond the teams, Wisconsin has superstars in every venue. Aaron Rodgers is the reigning Super Bowl MVP and may be the best football player on the planet. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder are young superstars. Bret Bielema can drink even the most devout alcoholic under the table.

Wisconsin fans needs to take a deep breath and appreciate the current run that their sports teams are having. Success is hard to find.

Which brings me to the first dose of my regularly underachieving 55 Percenters. The sad thing with the 55 Percenters is that they aren’t good nor are they bad enough to consistently bet against. Essentially, whether you bet with or against me, you are guaranteed to be mediocre and slowly bleed your bankroll to the juice.

But what the 55 Percenters are really about is degeneracy. They give you an excuse to watch football for an obscene amount of hours on a weekly basis and consider the resulting bedsores battle wounds. The 55 Percenters represent not just the bets listed below, but the second half bet on some shitty team getting a few too many points. The Monday night bet just because you have nothing else to do. Or my personal favorite, the reverse jinx bet to guarantee happiness.

With the 55 Percenters I’ve come to realize that success isn’t gauged on wins and losses but how ridiculous of a bet you can lose.

Below are my college football bets for the week, I will likely be posting my NFL picks sometime Saturday. To the picks…

Iowa -6.5 over IOWA ST

I’ll happily take Kirk Ferentz an the Hawkeyes laying less than a touchdown to the Cyclones. This is one of my favorites this week.

OHIO ST -18 over Toledo

Eighteen just isn’t enough here when I’m not sure how Toledo is going to score. I’m hopeful that the missing sweater vest means that Ohio St will now be more willing to pour it on late in a blowout.

Oregon St/WISCONSIN over 57.5

The state of Wisconsin might see 1000 points scored by their teams in football games this fall. Bucky can score at will, but I expect the Beavers to put up about 20 as well.

Rutgers +10 over NORTH CAROLINA

Another one of my favorites, both because I love the pick and it truly lives up to my mantra. Why wouldn’t I bet a random Rutgers/UNC game that I absolutely will not watch?

Alabama -10 over PENN ST & Bama/PSU under 42

I just can’t see how Penn St will score. Bama’s secondary is too good for Penn State’s mediocre quarterback play, meaning the front seven can focus on stopping the run. I see this game going similar to last year’s version, with Bama winning comfortably in the 24-7 range.

Byu/TEXAS under 48

I would probably call this my other favorite along with Iowa and Rutgers. Both teams are much improved from a year ago and I expect both defenses to be very good. Take the under.

Notre Dame -3 over MICHIGAN

These two teams played some of the most misleading games in the country last week. The Fighting Irish dominated South Florida, only to turn the ball over too many times, including a 14 point swing on a fumble returned for a touchdown from the South Florida one. Michigan on the other hand finished almost identical in yards with Western Michigan but somehow won 34-10 in a weather shortened game. If those scores played out as they should have, this line is probably closer to 7. I love the Irish here.
